The green lung of Frankfurt, the Grüneburgpark, is the largest park within the avenue ring and the third largest in the entire city area after the Niddapark and the Ostpark. Named after the long-defunct "Grüneburg", the former country estate of the Rothschild family, the extensive park was once a magnificent landscape garden owned by the family. Today, the approximately 29-hectare green space serves many Frankfurt citizens as an ideal place to relax, take a walk or go jogging. Whether parents with their children or dog owners, footballers or Frisbee players, sun worshippers or fitness enthusiasts, they all meet every day in the heart of Frankfurt, directly between the new university campus and the Palmengarten. With its large sunbathing lawns, winding and spacious walkways, Grüneburgpark virtually invites outdoor activities of all kinds.
In summer, the beautiful Parkcafé invites you to linger. The direct access to the Botanical Garden, the Korean Garden located at the level of the August-Siebert-Straße entrance, as well as the new university campus as a quasi-extension of the park are further aspects that make Grüneburgpark more attractive. And special events such as the open-air festival of the Dramatische Bühne, which has been held every summer for several years now, give the park in Frankfurt's Westend district a very special flair.
Since spring 2014, however, visitors to the park have had to live with restrictions and construction grids. This is because the park is being extensively renovated in a total of five construction phases on behalf of the Parks Department of the City of Frankfurt am Main. After completion of the not uncontroversial work - if everything goes according to plan, this will be the case at the end of the year - the park will shine in new splendor with redesigned playgrounds, repaired walkways and new fitness facilities.
Whether it's spring, summer, fall or winter - a walk through Grüneburg Park actually always provides relaxation and a little respite from the everyday stress of the big city. Therefore, this beautiful park is definitely a real Frankfurt leisure tip for us!
