In a rather inconspicuous backyard in Fahrgasse, just a stone's throw away from Konstablerwache, lies one of Frankfurt's most unusual "department stores". The idea behind "Raus-aus-dem-Keller" is as simple as it is ingenious. Anyone can rent shelf space here for a small amount of money, on which things can be offered for sale for the paid period of time that you no longer use or need, but which you also don't want to throw away. Then all you have to do is hope that the right customer comes into the shop looking for that very special item. Whether it's old technical devices, bags, clothes, books, DVDs, jewellery, crockery - there's actually nothing here that isn't there.
Browsing in the sales rooms is simply fun. Of course there is a lot of junk here. That's the case at every flea market. But in between there are always little treasures hiding. Admittedly, this is a matter of opinion, because tastes differ. But while some may think how kitschy they are when looking at small porcelain figurines, others may be happy to discover them and find a new owner. While for most people an old telephone box is just junk, for hobbyists it might be exactly what they have been looking for so urgently. And that's what makes browsing here so exciting and sometimes very amusing.
"Raus-aus-dem-Keller" is a good opportunity to part with things and maybe get a few euros for them. But it's also a good place to look for unusual gifts, indulge in nostalgia or go bargain hunting. A must for all flea market fans! Take a look for yourself!
