The water park: A small oasis with history

The water park: A small oasis with history

Category: Favorite places

Let's be honest: Friedberger Landstraße is not necessarily the most beautiful street in Frankfurt, especially the closer you get to the motorway. True, there are some nice corners here, certainly including the Friedberger Warte. But apart from that, there are truly more respectable corners in our city. But Frankfurt proves once again that the city is always good for surprises. For behind a rather inconspicuous gate on Friedberger lies a small green oasis: the water park.

On 3.7 hectares of pure green, it is possible to relax in one of the oldest people's parks of the city under rich trees excellent. At the same time, it is home to an important piece of the city's history. In 1872, Frankfurt's first modern drinking water reservoir was built here. To this day, it serves as a storage and distribution station for drinking water for the city. The neo-Renaissance pump house, the elevated tank and an obelisk also bear witness to this.

To highlight this valuable contribution to the city, an educational water trail was built at the far end of the park. At nine stations along a 600-metre-long wooden walkway, visitors will be able to experience the journey of water from source to drinking water treatment. Some of these stations are interactive and show, among other things, how water can be used to generate electricity. Children in particular can playfully discover how water gets from the source to the tap. A very nice addition to this already beautiful park.

But the water park is also home to bees. The Frankfurt Beekeepers Association is located here and offers local honey for sale every Saturday between 2 and 5 pm. On this occasion, you can also look over the beekeepers' shoulders. You can find more info at: <link http: www.frankfurt-imker.de _blank>Www.frankfurt-imker.de

From the water park it is only a few minutes walk to the larger Günthersburgpark and the adventure playground. Especially for trips with kids, it's nice to have some nice opportunities for the little ones to play and run around after a few quiet minutes at the water park. But for those who are simply looking for some relaxation, a visit to the water park can be highly recommended. Please note, however, that animals are not allowed.
