To mark the 100th anniversary of Ludwig Landmann's election as Lord Mayor of Frankfurt, a commemorative ceremony was held in the Kaisersaal of the Römer on Wednesday, October 2. In his opening speech, Lord Mayor Mike Josef paid tribute to Landmann's visionary work, which had a lasting impact on urban development with the "New Frankfurt" program. "Landmann was not only a modernizer, but also a pioneer of social justice and democratic values. His ideas are more relevant today than ever," emphasized Josef.
In his lecture, author Wilhelm von Sternburg highlighted the importance of Landmann's visionary approaches to urban planning and economic structure. Discussion contributions from experts, including Sharon Golan from Tel Aviv, made connections to modern urban development projects.
The event also marked the start of the 100th anniversary of the "New Frankfurt" in 2025, during which exhibitions and events will focus on historical building culture and social urban development. A special highlight will be the planned lantern festivals in the New Frankfurt estates, which are to take place from 2025 to 2030.
