For the 20th time already, the Griesheim district in the west of Frankfurt is transformed into a living Advent calendar during the Advent season. From 1 to 24 December, local associations, businesses and private individuals invite you to daily events that focus on neighborhood, community and tradition. This year's anniversary year celebrates the cohesion and commitment of those involved - and collects donations for a good cause.
A neighborhood in the Advent spirit
The "Griesheim Advent Windows" were launched in 2005 by Helle Isenbart and have since become a popular tradition. The idea is simple: every day during Advent, a window opens in different places in the district - symbolically and literally. Behind the windows are free events such as craft activities, musical performances or mulled wine gatherings that bring young and old together. This year, the 20th anniversary is being celebrated with a particularly varied program.
Together for a good cause
The proceeds from the fundraising campaigns traditionally go to charitable projects in the district. In 2024, the initiatives of the "Together in Griesheim" campaign alliance, which has been campaigning for non-discriminatory and respectful coexistence since 2019, will benefit. "It is important to us that the donations directly benefit Griesheim," emphasizes organizer Kerstin Herd.
Highlights in the Advent calendar<x><BR</x> The events kick off with the decorating of the Christmas tree at the Bürgerhaus, organized by the Frankfurt-Griesheim Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Griesheim Association Ring. Other highlights include the traditional mulled apple wine drink organized by Kelterei Nöll on 10 December, which attracts numerous visitors every year. A new addition is the Kolle house project in Schöffenstraße, which will open its doors for the first time on 12 December.
Business players such as CyrusOne, a data center operator, will also be taking part: on 11 December, the company will present its sustainable plans for waste heat recovery in the district. "Griesheim is more than just a district between industry and a freeway bridge," says organizer Herd. "It is a lively district with a charming village character."
