'Brains' at the Senckenberg Museum: Charly Körbel and the secrets of the human and animal brain

The new permanent exhibition "Brains" will open at the Senckenberg Research Institute and Nature Museum Frankfurt from 26 March 2025. With over 120 exhibits, the exhibition offers a deep insight into the secret worlds of the brains of humans and animals. The exhibition was made possible with around one million euros from the non-profit Hertie Foundation and combines scientific findings with artistic perspectives, including those of artist Tim Berresheim.

One highlight is the bust of Eintracht Frankfurt idol Karl-Heinz "Charly" Körbel, which shows not only his external appearance but also internal structures such as facial muscles and nerves. Körbel himself emphasises the special connection between body and mind in football and is delighted that his brain structure is part of this exhibition.

"Brains" not only sheds light on the anatomy and functioning of the human brain, but also shows the evolutionary differences in the brains of various animals. Interactive stations, such as the virtual football stadium, illustrate how the brain works in action - for example when kicking a ball or hearing cheers.

The exhibition is a unique mix of art, science and interactive experiences that takes visitors on a fascinating journey through the body's most complex organ. It will be on display at the Senckenberg Museum until 26 March 2026.
