Days of Industrial Culture Rhine-Main 2024: 'Full of Energy'

From September 14 to 22, 2024, the "Days of Industrial Culture Rhine-Main" will focus on the theme of "Full of Energy". The popular series of events organized by KulturRegion Rhein-Main enables a wide audience to explore industrial cultural sites in the metropolitan region that are not normally accessible. In 29 cities and municipalities, over 130 different events offer the opportunity to look at energy from different angles - from private use and municipal supply to geopolitical dependencies.

The varied program includes guided tours of plants, exhibitions, film screenings, tours as well as bike and boat trips. Visitors learn exciting facts about the development of energy generation and use: from water power in historic mills, to steam-powered machines, to modern electricity from power plants. Young and old explorers alike can learn about the history of energy supply as well as gain an insight into the future of energy and its transformation processes. How will we generate energy in the future? And what social challenges are associated with this? These and many other questions are the focus of the "Days of Industrial Culture".

Special highlights of this year's program are the guided tours through the still active Art Nouveau power plant in Bad Nauheim and visits to large industrial companies such as Merck in Darmstadt or Infraserv Höchst in Frankfurt, which provide a look behind the scenes of energy supply. The photo exhibition "Under Tension - Energy Generation in Transition" by the "Monuments Photo Group", which was specially designed for the event, takes a creative and critical look at how energy use has changed over time.

Places that are taking part in the "Days of Industrial Heritage" for the first time will also provide special experiences. For example, the WAAS.sche Fabrik cultural center in Geisenheim will be opening its doors, as will the former munitions facility (Muna) in Münster, the Energy Museum in Karlstein and the museum signal box in Reinheim. Another special program item is the "KUNSTSTOFFSTRASSE Week" in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, which will once again be represented with a variety of events this year.

The entire program of events, which for the first time completely dispenses with printed programs for reasons of sustainability, can be viewed online at www.krfrm.de. The "Rhine-Main Industrial Heritage Days" thus offer a unique opportunity to experience energy from both a historical and future-oriented perspective and to discover the cultural and industrial diversity of the region.
