In October 2024, accommodation providers in the Main metropolis once again set new records with 567,810 overnight guests (+3.3 percent compared to 2023) and 994,298 overnight stays (+4.2 percent). In addition to the traditional book fair, numerous events from the conference and congress sector as well as an increase in individual business contributed to the growth.
From January to October 2024, overnight stays totaled 9,298,835 - an increase of 9.2 percent compared to the same period last year. This brings a new annual record within reach. The previous record dates back to 2019, and a strong November result could secure this milestone before the end of the year.
Strong growth in international guests
Since the beginning of the year, 5.297,690 guests (+8.3 percent) have visited the city since the beginning of the year, including 3,399,679 from Germany (+7.3 percent), who generated 5,591,729 overnight stays (+7.1 percent). Guests from abroad made a significant contribution to growth with 1,898,011 arrivals (+10.0 percent) and 3,707,106 overnight stays (+12.4 percent). The proportion of international guests was 35.9 percent, while 64.1 percent of overnight stays came from domestic travelers.
USA, China and Great Britain as driving forces
The USA maintained its position as the largest international source market with 634,549 overnight stays (+15.6 percent). China impressed with an increase of 55.9% and ranked as the third strongest market behind the UK. India (+25.2 percent) and Japan (+12.0 percent) also recorded significant growth in the Asian region.
Among European countries, the UK (+28.0 percent), the Netherlands (+7.0 percent) and Italy (+12.7 percent) were the frontrunners.
Expansion of accommodation supply
In October 2024, 285 accommodation establishments were available, one more than in the previous year, with a total capacity of 64,862 beds (+1.2%). The average bed occupancy rate was 47.2%, while room occupancy was around 65%. Guests stayed an average of 1.8 days - a stable figure.
With demand continuing to grow and positive developments in numerous markets, Frankfurt is on course for success and is consolidating its status as an international travel destination.
