The Frankfurt MuseumsuferCard is 25 years old and invites all culture enthusiasts to celebrate. With a colourful program, special offers and great surprises, the anniversary year is a highlight in the city's cultural landscape.
Since its introduction in 2000, the MuseumsuferCard has become a success story. It offers holders free admission to 39 museums and has achieved cult status. Head of Cultural Affairs Ina Hartwig emphasizes the uniqueness of the concept: "Frankfurt's Museumsufer is a jewel that no other German city can match. The diversity of our museums is impressive, and the MuseumsuferCard brings this culture to life."
Anniversary events for 2025
To celebrate the 25th anniversary in style, the City of Frankfurt has put together a special program:
- Exclusive voucher booklet: MuseumsuferCard holders will receive a voucher booklet with 25 promotions, including free entry to the Palmengarten and zoo, 2-for-1 tickets for guided tours and free drinks.
- GeoCaching game: Every two weeks, a MuseumsuferCard is hidden in one of the participating museums. You can find the clues on the Instagram channel @ffmculture.
- Photo box tour: A photo box travels through the museums and offers selfie fans new background motifs every month to match the respective museum.
- Great raffle: Attractive prizes, including exclusive guided tours, posters and museum catalogs, are up for grabs at the end of the year. The number of the MuseumsuferCard serves as the raffle ticket number.
Prices remain stable
Despite the anniversary promotions, the price of the MuseumsuferCard remains unchanged. A one-way ticket still costs 89 euros, reduced 45 euros. Family tickets are available for 150 euros.
Success story of a card
When the MuseumsuferCard was introduced in 2000, 19 museums initially took part. Today there are 39, including three museums in Offenbach. Sales figures have risen steadily since then: from 3,000 tickets sold in the first year to over 26,500 in 2019. After a coronavirus-related slump, demand is recovering again; over 21,500 tickets were sold in 2023.
"The MuseumsuferCard is a real model for success," says a delighted Hartwig. "It makes art and culture accessible to everyone and strengthens the importance of the Museumsufer."
A year full of experiences
The MuseumsuferCard offers free admission to 39 museums for one year, including the Städel Museum, the German Film Museum and the Caricatura Museum. Admission is also free to the Museumsuferfest and the Night of the Museums. In addition, holders receive an annual subscription to the art magazine ARTkaleidoscope.
The anniversary is an occasion not only to celebrate the history of the MuseumsuferCard, but also to take a look into the future: "We are looking forward to the next 25 years", says Hartwig.
