Frankfurt Public Library becomes Library of the Year

(ffm) Stadtbücherei Frankfurt am Main receives the national library award from the German Library Association (dbv) and the Deutsche Telekom Foundation for the work of its school library service (sba).

The sba organizes a steadily growing network of currently 111 school libraries, provides media services for all Frankfurt schools and thus reaches around 57,300 pupils. It enables children and young people - regardless of their individual social or family educational background - to access knowledge, information and literature as a matter of course in their everyday school life.

Sylvia Weber, Head of Department for Integration and Education, stands behind the school library concept of the municipal library: "Since its foundation in 1974, the school library service of the municipal library has been consistently committed to modern, professional school library work with high standards. Its great commitment is an international role model. The fact that the municipal library with its specialist department is now being honoured as 'Library of the Year' confirms the Frankfurt model and makes me extremely happy."

The "Library of the Year 2018" award is endowed with 20,000 euros and will be presented in Frankfurt on 24 October, the Day of Libraries. Time and place will be announced to the press in due course
