Frankfurt's water play facilities go into their winter break

The seven municipal water play facilities in Frankfurt officially end their 2024 season on Sunday, 15 September. The Parks Department has made the facilities available since May and they were open every day, depending on the weather. City Councillor Tina Zapf-Rodríguez, Head of the Department for Climate, Environment and Women's Issues, draws a positive balance: "Many children have taken advantage of our free offer in the high temperatures. This summer fun is now coming to an end with the autumnal weather."

The new facility in Günthersburgpark, which opened at the end of August, was a particular hit with visitors despite weather-related delays. According to Zapf-Rodríguez, the water features not only contribute to enjoyment, but also help to cool the city's microclimate - an important aspect in terms of climate change.

Since 2009, the city of Frankfurt has been continuously investing in the renovation and modernization of its water features to make them more efficient and environmentally friendly. One of the latest projects is the playground in Günthersburgpark, which was renovated with funding from the city's climate fund.

The next planned renovation is for the Louisa water playground. Information on all water playgrounds is available on the City of Frankfurt website.
