Good news for those involved: the Preungesheim weekly market on Gravensteiner Platz will continue to take place even after a change of operator. From 2025, the municipal management company for the port and market (HFM) will take over the operation of the market. This means that this popular weekly market, which offers fresh food and a unique outdoor shopping experience, will remain a central part of city life.
The market, which not only serves as a place to shop but also as a meeting point for local associations and citizens, was previously organized by the Hesse State Association for Market Trade and Showmen. Due to capacity constraints, the association is now withdrawing and has asked HFM to take over the market.
Head of Economic Affairs Stephanie Wüst explains: "Frankfurt's weekly markets are an important part of the city's culture and the local economy. They are popular meeting places for residents, who appreciate the personal interaction with the traders and the charm of traditional market trading. The smooth takeover will ensure the attractiveness of the market on Gravensteiner Platz, which is an important offer for the district." She adds: "In most cases, it does not make sense for the city to take over commercial businesses from private individuals. In this particular case, the long-standing operator is withdrawing for capacity reasons. We are very pleased that HFM is so well positioned and can offer traders a future in Preungesheim thanks to its many years of expertise in Frankfurt's market scene."
