For the eighth time and for the third time in a row, Oper Frankfurt has been named "Opera House of the Year" by the renowned trade journal "Opernwelt". The opera house on the Main owes this outstanding award to its innovative, varied and dramaturgically convincing repertoire under the direction of artistic director Bernd Loebe. The Frankfurt Opera thus prevailed against competitors such as the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, Ulm and Dortmund.
In addition to the title of "Opera House of the Year", the Frankfurt Opera also received high recognition in other categories. Lydia Steier was named "Director of the Year" for her courageous production of Verdi's "Aida" and Matthew Wild's interpretation of Wagner's "Tannhäuser" was named "Performance of the Year".
The Frankfurt Opera Chorus, conducted by Tilman Michael, was named "Chorus of the Year" for the third time in a row and John Osborn received the title "Singer of the Year" for his outstanding portrayal of Éléazar in the Frankfurt production of "La Juive".
Bernd Loebe was delighted with the renewed success: "The fact that we have been named 'Opera House of the Year' for the eighth time and for the third time in a row underlines the continuity of our work at the highest level. This is the result of the commitment of all employees and the outstanding artistic achievements that make Oper Frankfurt internationally successful."
Frankfurt's Lord Mayor Mike Josef and Head of Cultural Affairs Ina Hartwig also congratulated Oper Frankfurt on these successes and emphasized the importance of the opera for the city's cultural appeal. "With exceptional artistic quality and a bold repertoire, the opera contributes significantly to Frankfurt's international recognition," said Josef. Hartwig emphasized that the awards underline the city's pride and commitment to continue supporting this high standard.
Opera Frankfurt thus remains the undisputed leader and will continue its run of success in the coming season.
