The Kaisermarkt returns home: weekly market in Kaiserstraße reopens

A traditional institution in Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel district is returning to its traditional location: the Kaisermarkt in Kaiserstraße will be ceremoniously reopened on Thursday, 3 April. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the market vendors will be inviting visitors to stroll, shop and enjoy. From now on, the market will take place every Thursday as usual, with the exception of public holidays.

With the return of the weekly market, city councillor Stephanie Wüst emphasises, not only is a valued piece of Frankfurt tradition returning, but also an important element for the development of the station district. "The reopening of the Kaisermarkt is a strong signal for the location," explains Wüst. "Not only the market vendors have campaigned for the preservation of this market, but also local companies who emphasise its importance for the district. Our aim is to further develop the market as a social and economic meeting place."

Eduard M. Singer, Head of City Marketing, also emphasises the emotional and cultural relevance of the market: "The Kaisermarkt was and is a symbol of Frankfurt's identity. With its return to its original location, we are building on a long-standing tradition."

A market with a history and a future

Since 1999, the Kaisermarkt has characterised the station district as a lively meeting place for residents, commuters and tourists. The city of Frankfurt responded to earlier challenges by temporarily relocating the market to the Hauptwache in order to offer market vendors an alternative sales area. Now the market is returning to its original location - with an expanded range and new impetus.

Nazim Alemdar, Chairman of the Treffpunkt Bahnhofsviertel trade association, sees the reopening as an opportunity for the neighbourhood: "The Kaisermarkt stands for diversity, encounters and innovation. With its return, we are combining the past and the future in a unique way."

The owners' initiative Bahnhofsviertel, represented by Gunnar Berendson and Ralph Haerth, sees the market as the key to revitalising the district: "For 25 years, the Kaisermarkt has made an important contribution to the attractiveness of the Bahnhofsviertel. Now we need to further develop the offer and appeal to new target groups."

Fresh variety in Kaiserstraße

The reopening of the Kaisermarkt promises a wide range of regional products. Twelve dedicated market traders offer fresh fruit and vegetables, regional specialities such as Frankfurt Green Sauce and other culinary delights. Expectations are high: the market should not only be a local supplier, but also act as a social attraction.

With the reopening, the Kaisermarkt is building on its long-standing tradition - and at the same time setting an example for the future of Frankfurt's railway station district.
