For many, the Christstollen is an indispensable part of the Christmas season. However, the Christstollen is also the gift about which most gift recipients roll their eyes, they often know in advance that they expect again a much too dry and much too hard Stollen. But with the right preparation, this will not happen to you. Instead, you will conjure up a delicious, moist Christstollen that will delight family and friends alike. To prepare a traditional Christmas stollen, you will need the following ingredients:
Ingredients
- 50 g candied lemon peel
<x>.N</x>- 50 g candied orange peel (these ingredients can also be omitted depending on taste preferences)
- 100 g raisins
- 175 g chopped almonds
- about 6 tsp rum
- 500 g flour
- 3 packets dry yeast
- 1 tsp. Cinnamon
- 1 tsp. Cardamom
- 100 g sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 pinch of clove powder
- 100 g margarine
- 1/8 litre milk
- 50 g lard
- In addition, you will need for brushing and sprinkling: 100g butter and fine icing sugar.
Preparation:
You should take plenty of time for the preparation. First, mix the candied lemon peel, candied orange peel, raisins and almonds with the rum and let it steep well for several hours. It is best to prepare this step the night before you want to bake the Christstollen and let it stand overnight.
Then mix the flour with the salt, cardamom, dry yeast, clove powder and sugar. Now knead all this with a hand mixer to a smooth dough. Be sure to use the dough hook of the mixer for this.
You must then let the dough rise for about an hour in a warm environment (e.g. near the heating). Then transfer the dough to a floured work surface and slowly knead in the fruit mixture, which by now has been well absorbed. Now shape the dough into the familiar Stollen shape and let it rise again for about 45 minutes before baking it in the oven at about 175 degrees for about an hour. Afterwards you have to brush the still warm Stollen with the liquid butter and then sprinkle it with the icing sugar. Then just let it cool down and your delicious christstollen is ready.
