Why Bornheim is the fun village: Kerb and pub scene

Why Bornheim is the fun village: Kerb and pub scene

What is the most beautiful district? Well? Bornheim, the fun village about which the New York Times already headlined "Once Merry, Now Cool". And all the other city dwellers are now welcome to Applaud roll their eyes in annoyance, especially my dear friends in Sachsenhausen:) The district with about 30,000 inhabitants in the east belongs to Frankfurt since 1877. But why funny? The name originated from the <link https: de.wikipedia.org wiki _blank gaststätte> inns with <link https: de.wikipedia.org wiki apfelwein _blank>apple wine bar, the <link https: de.wikipedia.org wiki _blank tanzfläche> dance floors and the <link https: de.wikipedia.org wiki prostitution _blank>prostitution prevalent there. In and next to <link https: de.wikipedia.org wiki _blank>Berger Straße there are traditional cider pubs such as "Schmärrnche" opposite the Johanniskirche in the old village centre.

The upper part of Berger Straße can hardly be surpassed in Mediterranean flair, on Thursday evening there were many people sitting on chairs and benches. Bornheim's exuberant joie de vivre reaches its climax in August, when it is once again time to "raise the tree" for the Kerb. Anyone can have a street party, and there's always something going on on the Main in the summer, but in Bornheim it's fun again: the relaxed music festival "Stoffel" has barely dismantled its stages in Günthersburgpark, and this weekend the "Bernemer Kerb", the church consecration festival dating back to 1608, beckons. From Friday to Sunday there's plenty of fun to be had around Alt-Bornheim: On Saturday, helpers hoisted the tree with Lisbeth as patron saint into the air. (I don't even want to talk about her fate at the end of the Kerb, but if you know something about the way women were treated in the depths of the Middle Ages, you can figure it out). So far I have always had a great time thanks to live bands and cool drinks in the shade around the Johanniskirche. Here the warm-heartedness of village life joins the existence in the big city in a small space, that's why Bornheim is the most beautiful district.
