For fans of electronic music there was only one destination last weekend: the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt. More than 160,000 people travelled from 70 nations to celebrate together for three days. A complete success for the organisers, who were more than satisfied with this sixth WORLD CLUB DOME weekend in and around the Commerzbank Arena: "Over 160,000 club music fans from 70 nations on a 750,000 m2 outdoor area and a sold-out Commerzbank Arena - the BigCityBeats WORLD CLUB DOME 2018 exceeded all expectations. We would like to thank our BigCityBeats family, the WORLD CLUB DOME fans and the city of Frankfurt, with which we feel more connected than ever," sums up a happy Bernd Breiter, CEO of BigCityBeats.
The event was already completely sold out in the previous week and also Petrus showed himself to be a fan of the "biggest club in the world" and let the sun shine strongly on all three days - apart from small cloud fields. With a peak of 55,000 guests per day, WORLD CLUB DOME 2018 set a new attendance record. Fans travelled from countries such as Argentina, Brazil, China, Ghana, Colombia, Canada, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Mexico, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea or the USA and showed once again that peaceful and harmonious coexistence is possible - and how much fun it can be.
For the first time, the event had a motto with "The Hollywood Edition". The dream factory from Hollywood was to meet the "biggest club in the world". So the superstars of the international DJ scene were flown by helicopter shuttles directly into the stadium to the red carpet. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Robin Schulz, Tiësto, Timmy Trumpet or W&W immortalized themselves before their sets on the Walk of Fame with handprints and signatures on their "pillars" under the cheers of the fans.
International glamour was already present at the spectacular opening show. Star soprano and Grammy Award winner Sarah Brightman, the only artist to have opened the Olympics twice, led the ceremony. There were even more celebrities at the Bambi Beats party on Saturday, which followed the closing set by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. Even the DFB Cup was on display for the WorldClubbers. Eintracht Frankfurt president Peter Fischer flew the trophy by helicopter into the Commerzbank Arena.
In total, the sixth edition of the BigCityBeats WORLD CLUB DOME presented over 200 artists on 25 stages, including almost all international top acts. Behind the stages there was an additional touch of top model feeling as Peyman Amin held photo shoots with contestants for the club queen.
The world's largest pop-up cinema delivered the festival premiere of the film "Berlin Calling" on Friday night, with protagonist Paul Kalkbrenner DJing on the Poolstage afterwards. With the WCD Pool Sessions in the adjacent Frankfurt Stadionbad, a real holiday feeling like in the clubs on Ibiza came up again. Visitors were able to cool off in the pools or relax on the sunbathing lawns while DJs like Solomun and Sven Väth played. The neighbouring Frankfurt Berg Stage provided a platform for local DJs for the first time. Another highlight was the impressive Zombie Stage, where at times over 7,000 fans celebrated the harder sounds of electronic music.
City Councillor Markus Frank, patron of the event is also thrilled by the success: "The ‚biggest club in the world' in Frankfurt's Commerzbank Arena has become an international trademark. With partners such as ESA (European Space Agency), Deutsche Bahn, Fraport AG, Frankfurt Airport and the City of Frankfurt am Main, the Frankfurt-based family business BigCityBeats GmbH has been able to turn breathtaking visions into reality. A very big thank you on behalf of the city of Frankfurt am Main to Frankfurt family business Carina and Bernd Breiter: BigCityBeats GmbH is Frankfurt ambassador par excellence."
On Sunday, the "biggest club in the world" said goodbye with a gigantic closing show that lit up the skies over Frankfurt across Europe, featuring Le Shuuk and teen star Mike Singer performing his hit "Deja Vu".
