Proceeds from traditional arts and crafts market for MS patients
A good 2500 arts and crafts lovers visited the "28th Frankfurt Autumn Market" at the Dominican Monastery yesterday and today. The attracted again with a diverse selection of creative gift and decoration ideas as well as an enjoyable selection of homemade and sweet treats from "world confectioner" Bernd Siefert. Proceeds from this benefit will go to the German Multiple Sclerosis Society (DMSG) Landesverband Hessen and local MS groups.
"It was wonderful. There were only satisfied faces: both among the exhibitors and the good 2500 visitors", organizer Ingrid Bauer drew an all-around positive conclusion of the 28th edition of the popular arts and crafts market. The autumn weather yesterday and today had obviously provided the perfect occasion to find inspiration for an atmospheric and cosy ambience for the home. These were in abundance at Frankfurt's Dominican Monastery. For example, clay works dipped in the colours of autumn, wooden toys, luminous candle arches, funny looking elves made of fabric or filigree angels made of paper. These are folded by Barbara Mischke from Rödermark from the pages of discarded song books. For a good seven years, she has been showing her paper works at the traditional autumn market, which gives artisans the opportunity to present the wide variety of their creative work and, above all, to offer it for sale. "The autumn market at the Dominican Monastery is simply the best market far and wide," emphasizes Barbara Mischke: "And it's great that we exhibitors are doing something good with it." Renate Schaffer and Hannelore Becker from Frankfurt-Seckbach have a similar view. "From the very beginning", the two friends visit both the Easter and Autumn markets year after year. "We like both markets. There is a nice atmosphere here because artisans show their work, which they have made with passion. Above all, you get lots of ideas and already buy the first gifts for Christmas," says Renate Schaffer. Her friend Hannelore Becker adds: "It's nice that the autumn market is non-commercial and that you support MS patients."

"By being here, you make it possible for us to present ourselves and our work for MS sufferers and to awaken understanding for the disease multiple sclerosis," emphasized the managing director of the MS self-help organization, which was represented with an information stand at the autumn market to provide information about the neurological disease and to present its counseling and support services in Hesse. Bernd Crusius encouraged visitors to stroll through the arts and crafts market and get their first Christmas presents: "Because the final spurt until Christmas Eve has already begun."
Suggestions for presents or suitable decorations for the autumn and Advent season were in abundance at the "28th Frankfurt Autumn Market". Under the motto "You can look, ask, buy", the exhibitors presented a varied range at their 63 stands: glass art, Tiffany, ceramics, silk and porcelain painting, candles, wooden toys, floristry, dolls, jewellery, patchwork, silhouettes, Christmas decorations and much more. In addition, visitors could watch a glassblower shaping his objects over a hot flame or an artist painting Christmas porcelain figurines. Also tempted sweet treats from the "World Confectioner of the Year" Bernd Siefert from Michelstadt and homemade delicacies such as pesto, mustard, vinegar and oil, jam or honey.
The DMSG Hessen:
The DMSG, Landesverband Hessen e.V., is a self-help organization and interest group for MS patients in Hessen, was founded in 1980 and is based in Frankfurt. 25 full-time and more than 500 honorary employees work for about 8000 affected persons. The regional association of Hesse is one of 16 regional associations which are part of the federal association with its headquarters in Hanover. A goal of the self-help organization is the comprehensive and individual consultation of MS-afflicted and their members in psychosocial, medical, vocational and social-legal questions. Other concerns of the DMSG Hessen are to advise on the organization and application of nursing services and rehabilitation, as well as to accompany MS sufferers and their relatives in all aspects of their social life and to discuss personal concerns in the counseling appointment.
