(kus) Lord Mayor and patron Peter Feldmann opened the "Hibbdebach-Dribbdebach" school chess tournament at the Saalbau Bornheim on Thursday, February 9. Organized by the Frankfurter Sparkasse 1822 and the Hessian Chess Youth more than 600 pupils from the city of Frankfurt and the FrankfurtRhineMain region took part again in the 27th year. They competed against each other in individual age groups - from primary school pupils to young adults. After the Alsterufer tournament in Hamburg, the Frankfurt school chess tournament is the second largest of its kind in Germany.
"Chess is about strategy and the ability to concentrate. And it's about putting yourself in your opponent's shoes or being one step ahead of him," said the head of the city in his welcoming speech. In this way, chess supports the development of young people and strengthens them.
Robert Restani, Chairman of the Board of Frankfurter Sparkasse, added: "Our event is the chess highlight of the year for many school teams. There are schools that have not missed a single tournament in 27 years."
In five matches, each with alternating opponents, the school teams competed against each other to determine the best schools in the primary school, up to 14 years and 14 years and older classes. The top three teams in each case enjoyed numerous trophies at the awards ceremony, while there were medals and certificates for all participants.
