90 years of the Opelbad in Wiesbaden: swimming with a panoramic view

Built in the "Neues Bauen" style and named after Wilhelm von Opel, the Opelbad has been inspiring visitors with its modern design and a fantastic view over Wiesbaden since it opened 80 years ago.

The historic baths were completed in June 1934 thanks to generous support from privy councillor Wilhelm von Opel. In 1936, the pool was extended to include a non-swimmers' area and in 1958 it was enlarged to an area of 14,500 m². Since 1995, modern solar technology has ensured that the water temperature is kept at a constant 24 °C.

In 2018, the Opelbad was renovated at a cost of 1.1 million euros and given a completely new stainless steel pool. The water level was raised, giving bathers a unique view of Wiesbaden from the pool.

This year, the Opelbad in Wiesbaden is celebrating its 90th birthday. No celebrations are planned for the anniversary year.
