The magic of Christmas is over, and with it the life of the Christmas tree is coming to an end. But instead of simply being disposed of, Nordmann fir and co. can start a second life in Frankfurt - as nutrient-rich humus for the garden.
Two options for Christmas tree disposal
FES Frankfurter Entsorgungs- und Service GmbH offers citizens two ways to get rid of their trees:
-
Through the organic waste garbage can or street cleaning
Decorated Christmas trees that have been shortened to a maximum of one meter can be disposed of in January via the brown organic waste garbage can, the grey residual waste garbage can or street cleaning. -
Collection tour through the city districts
A specially deployed Christmas tree vehicle collects trees between 6 and 24 January on fixed dates in Frankfurt's districts. Prerequisite: The tree must be free of decorations, shortened to one meter and placed clearly visible at the property boundary.

Additional drop-off options
Alternatively, Christmas trees can be dropped off free of charge at the FES recycling centers, at small waste sites or directly at RMB Rhein-Main Biokompost GmbH in Osthafen. The self-service app "Maex" can be used to conveniently book time slots for collection.
From fir tree to garden soil
What happens to the collected trees? They are brought to RMB Rhein-Main Biokompost GmbH together with garden waste. There, they undergo an innovative composting process in airtight rotting tunnels and are transformed into high-quality humus in just 14 days. This is then sieved to remove foreign matter and can be reused as nutrient-rich soil.
Sustainability in action
Thanks to the well thought-out disposal logistics and the environmentally friendly composting process, the Christmas trees are given a new lease of life - making a valuable contribution to the environment and the garden soil.
