Frankfurt invests millions in the renovation of park paths

Frankfurt invests millions in the renovation of park paths

Pothole-free footpaths and safe paths for cyclists - the city of Frankfurt is renovating numerous park paths over the coming months with a comprehensive investment of 2.8 million euros. A total of 16.3 kilometres in 27 green spaces will be repaired to improve the quality of life in the parks.

"Heat and heavy rainfall take their toll on our paths, which are often decades old. Restoration is cost-intensive, but necessary to maintain our parks as places of recreation," emphasises Tina Zapf-Rodríguez, Head of Climate and Environment. The renovation is therefore an investment in the infrastructure and the quality of life of Frankfurt's citizens.

Special measures are planned in Günthersburgpark, where some of the main paths will be paved with light-coloured asphalt instead of gravel. Natural stone paving will be used in the Untermainanlage, while new paths made of concrete paving will be created in the Margarete-Schütte-Lihotzky-Anlage in Praunheim and in the green corridor on Anne-Frank-Straße in Eschersheim.

The work already began in February with the repair of the path along the Liederbach in Unterliederbach. In the coming months, renovations will follow in the ramparts, Sommerhoffpark, Bernuspark and Mainuferpark, where heavily used gravel paths will be renewed. In addition to the park paths, the gravel surfaces of two football pitches - on Stresemannallee in Sachsenhausen and in Stegwiesen in Niederursel - will also be thoroughly renovated.

During the construction work, residents must expect individual paths or entire park areas to be closed. The Parks Department asks that you use the signposted diversions. The work should be completed by the end of the year.
