With the 46th Rheingau Wine Week from Friday, August 11 to Thursday, August 20, Wiesbaden celebrates one of its most popular festivals. For ten days, wineries from Wiesbaden and the Rheingau present their wines and sparkling wines. As a twin city, San Sebastian presents Spanish wines. In addition to 99 wine stands, 20 gastronomy stands offer sweet and savory dishes as well as grilled specialties. "The Rheingau Wine Week is a crowd puller for guests from Wiesbaden and the surrounding area, but also for tourists, who have one more reason to visit our beautiful city, especially during Wine Week," says Wiesbaden Mayor Christiane Hinninger about the festival. "Every year I look forward to the encounters, the good conversations and the wines. But I also know that Rheingau winegrowers are struggling with climate change - with drought and weather extremes." In the interest of sustainability, plastic tableware and cutlery will be dispensed with at the gastronomic stands. A returnable bottle deposit will also be charged again. The deposit is three euros. This is to keep the places clean and free of broken glass. Environmental compatibility also plays a role in the official wine glass of the Wine Week: lighter glass has made it less production-intensive and more environmentally friendly. It is available for three euros at the Wiesbaden Tourist Information, Marktplatz 1, and at eight selected booths at the Wine Week.
As in previous years, the stages for the bands and music groups are located on the Schlossplatz, in front of the Marktkirche and on the Dern'schen grounds. The stage in front of Wiesbaden City Hall will be the venue for the official Weinfest opening on Friday, August 11, at 5 pm. Guests will be able to arrive and depart in a relaxed manner: for the first time this year, a guarded parking lot will be available for cyclists during the Rheingau Wine Week at the rear exit of the Marktkirche opposite Café Lumen. In addition, a wine festival ticket will be offered again: Upon presentation of the ticket, a voucher will be issued that can be redeemed for wine at selected vintners.
