With the start of the three leading international consumer goods trade fairs Ambiente, Christmasworld and Creativeworld, Messe Frankfurt's new Hall 5 finally opened last week. The new hall has made Messe Frankfurt even more attractive for exhibitors and organizers, as well as for visitors. This is because the additional 18,110 square meters of exhibition space created here will henceforth offer flexible options for all event formats. At the same time, the new Hall 5 provided with its inauguration for an area record: never before was a consumer goods event of Messe Frankfurt on the domestic site as large as the trio of trade fairs launched at the same time as the opening.
"Today, in the beginning trade fair hustle and bustle of our three international consumer goods trade fairs, we can be sure that the decision was right to push ahead with the new construction of Hall 5, despite the pandemic and the standstill of our trade fair business, without any ongoing revenue," said Uwe Behm, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt, during the opening ceremony. The three flagship consumer goods shows, Ambiente, Christmasworld and Creativeworld, will occupy 352,950 gross square meters from Feb. 3 to 7 with 4,561 exhibitors and expect participants from 160 nations. Messe Frankfurt is thus setting a new space record in the consumer goods sector - with the new Hall 5 and Hall 12 on line at the same time. The maximum utilized hall capacities impressively illustrate: the consumer goods world is at home here in Frankfurt.
"This is what we have invested in: In the new construction of Hall 5," Behm said. "Today, it launches just in time for the consumer goods fairs and is proof of the successful investment in Frankfurt as a trade fair location. These are the best signals for us as trade fair organizers," Behm continued. "The investment in Hall 5 was possible because our shareholders, the City of Frankfurt am Main and the State of Hesse, believed in our trade fair business model during the pandemic and had confidence in Messe Frankfurt's solid economic stability."
Frankfurt and Hesse benefit from the earning power of Messe Frankfurt
Supervisory Board Chairwoman Stephanie Wüst, City Councillor and Head of the Department for Economic Affairs, Legal Affairs and Reforms, explained: "This investment sustainably strengthens Frankfurt as a trade fair location. The consumer goods fairs Ambiente, Christmasworld and Creativeworld 2023 impressively demonstrate the possibilities offered by the site with the new hall. We wish all exhibitors a successful trade fair and visitors a pleasant stay in our city. Because with their participation in the trade fair, they not only ensure increasing business travel sales, but also contribute to the international importance of the business location. Messe Frankfurt has generated increasing sales over decades and produced a socio-economic effect of around 3.6 billion euros. It is our goal to keep Messe fit for the future."
"Hesse is one of Europe's leading economic regions, we are an innovative and internationally oriented location. Hardly anywhere is our global networking more visible and tangible than at the Frankfurt trade fair venue," said Tarek Al-Wazir, Hesse's Minister of Economics and Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the trade fair company.
Construction of the new hall, based on designs by Frankfurt-based Gruber + Kleine-Kraneburg Architekten, was scheduled to begin in April 2020, with demolition of the old Hall 5 starting immediately after the Book Fair in fall 2019. The general conditions for the new Hall 5 were precisely defined, except for a few partial aspects, because the old hall was closely integrated into the site structure. It directly adjoins the Congress Center, Hall 6 and Via Mobile. The required accuracy of the plans was excellently mastered by all trades - architects, planners, structural engineers, construction crews and also the Messe Frankfurt construction department.
Flexible space with direct connection to the Congress Center and Hall 6
The new Hall 5 offers exhibition space on two levels totaling 18.110 square meters as well as a foyer with over 1,250 square meters of event space. From level 5.1, there is direct access to the Harmonie hall of the Congress Center. In the opposite direction, Hall 5 offers a direct connection to the neighboring Hall 6, allowing events of different sizes to be combined with congresses as desired.
The roof of Hall 5 will be completely greened and planted with sedum shoots. These favor the microclimate and provide a cooling effect on hot days
