In previous years, it was always a glittering gala in the Alte Oper: the award ceremony of the Hessian Film and Cinema Award. Many stars and starlets then paid their respects in Frankfurt, faced the flurry of flashbulbs from the press in front of the Alte Oper and fulfilled countless autograph requests from fans. It had been clear for some time that there would be no big gala this year. But nothing stood in the way of a small-scale award ceremony in the Naxoshalle until now - until the Corona numbers skyrocketed again.
And so the presentation of the 31st Film and Cinema Awards will take place without a presence event with nominees and award winners. "We have decided, in view of the development of the Corona case numbers, to hold the award ceremony, which is planned in digital format anyway, without the presence of the award winners. Although the number of participants would have been kept to a minimum and the hygiene concept provided for all the necessary precautions, several dozen people would still have had to make the journey to Frankfurt. We do not want to put them at this risk and will therefore award the prizes without the event," Hesse's Minister for Science and the Arts, Angela Dorn, announced on Friday.
Appreciation in digital form
.Following the cancellation of the traditional film awards gala at the Alte Oper, a recording with nominees and award winners was planned at Frankfurt's Naxoshalle to be shown on the internet and social media. At the scheduled time, all award winners will now be honored in digital form on the website hessischerfilmpreis.de and on social media on October 22 from 7 pm. This is no substitute for a festive gala - but the winners will still be happy about their awards!
