In March 2025, Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt (VGF) will begin the barrier-free conversion of the Niddapark subway station, which is served by the U1 and U9 lines. The extensive construction work includes raising the platforms, replacing furniture and technical equipment and renovating the roofs. The installation of new elevators is scheduled to start in June 2025. The construction work is expected to last until mid-2026. During this time, the station will be closed in phases or the operation of the subway lines will be interrupted.
The renovation work includes raising the platforms from 57 to 81 centimetres to enable step-free boarding and alighting. A tactile guidance system will also be installed to make it easier for visually impaired passengers to find their way around. Despite the construction work, the previous platform length of 105 meters will be retained.
In addition, three new elevators will be installed to ensure barrier-free access to the station. These will connect the street level, the distribution level and the two platforms.
The construction work is expected to cost 9.3 million euros.
