#BeActive - European Week of Sport 2019

#BeActive - European Week of Sport 2019

(ffm) For the third time there will be a European Week of Sport in Frankfurt. Under the motto "It's time to #BeActive", it will be held from Monday, September 23, to Sunday, September 29. The sports city of Frankfurt will once again be a special venue for the #BeActive week nationwide. The focus will be on numerous sports and information offers from Monday to Sunday at the Mainkai.

There, a number of supervised movement stations, such as two different course landscapes, a tennis court and a soccer court invite visitors to try out. From Thursday to Sunday, visitors can also take part in a total of 120 sporting activities, including the Fraport Skyliners, the Frankfurt Lions and the organisers of the Eschborn-Frankfurt cycling classic. The sports landscape is supervised by sports and gymnastics clubs from Frankfurt and the region.

The European Youth Marathon will open the #BeActive week on Monday afternoon. Minister of the Interior Peter Beuth, City Councillor Markus Frank, Michaela Röhrbein, Secretary General of the German Gymnastics Federation, and Manfred Pohl from the Future Council will send the children and young people off on the approximately five-kilometre course along the Main.

Visitors can relax during the 45 performances on the central #BeActive stage. Highlights include a calisthenics competition on Saturday night, open to all. In this, the first-place winner will win a starting place for the 2020 German Championships.

The #BeActive Plus information and workshop programme is made up of a variety of events, such as the infotainment cooking show on healthy eating with star chef Thomas Bühner, as well as topics on occupational health promotion and "Fit in old age" with exercise ambassador Peter Wirth, also known as the "Bahn-Babo". The school action days are aimed at Frankfurt schools and kindergartens and encourage children in a competition to walk to their institution. Project days with trainers can also be booked at local schools or at the Mainkai.

Other decentralized offers are aimed at companies: These can book trainers for a half-hour "moving lunch break" or a "BackActive" course in the late afternoon for their employees. On the Mainkai itself, visitors can take part in an "active lunch break" every day - as a group or as an individual visitor.

On Thursday and Sunday, visitors can test their current fitness level by taking the "European Fitness Badge" and then receive individual advice on this from experts from the Hessian Gymnastics Association. On Saturday and Sunday, the German Olympic Sports Association will be taking the sports badge. An innovation this year is "BeActive in the Park": the FTG Frankfurt invites you to four different sports activities in its sports garden in Rödelheim.

The European Week of Sport goes back to an initiative of the EU, which has been promoting more sporting activity in 42 countries in the last week of September since 2015. In Frankfurt, the week of events is sponsored by the German Gymnastics Federation, the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and for Sport and the City of Frankfurt.

"We are looking forward to a great week of events with a wide-ranging participatory programme that provides a good insight into Frankfurt's large and colourful sports family," says Head of Sports Frank. "The distinctive club life and the unparalleled commitment of the many volunteers make this event format possible in the first place. To them belong my great thanks."

On the motivation of the Hessian Ministry of the Interior, Sports Department Head Jens-Uwe Münker says: "Lack of exercise is sustainably unhealthy and reduces the quality of life. Therefore, the sport plays an essential role in health prevention This we want to show with all partners in the context of the European Week of Sport. I would be delighted if as many people as possible could find the time to come to the banks of the Main and exercise with us. Because this time is well invested."

Michaela Röhrbein, Secretary General of the German Gymnastics Federation explains: "The German Gymnastics Federation is proud to be able to implement the #BeActive week for the fourth time as national coordinator. With its many offers in the fitness and health sports sector, the DTB is ideal for acting as a multiplier for the campaign. Together with the partners and institutions involved, we want to get people moving and play a part in keeping the population healthy."

Project partners of #BeActiveFrankfurt are the Sportkreis Frankfurt, the Landessportbund Hessen, the Sportklinik Frankfurt, the German Institute for Sports Nutrition, the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon and the Deutsche Rentenversicherung. The sponsors include Mainova AG and Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt. Constantin H. Alsheimer, Chairman of the Management Board of Mainova AG, says: "As Hesse's largest energy supplier, we are committed to our home region by supporting society and young people. We welcome the initiative and the idea behind the European Week of Sport, because sport moves and connects. The action week brings people together and overcomes borders. It also demonstrates Frankfurt's sporting and social diversity. I wish the initiative and the European Youth Marathon every success and lively participation."
