The Frankfurt Book Fair is without doubt one of the most important and popular events in the city's trade fair calendar. Year after year, the fair attracts not only thousands of trade visitors and authors, but also an interested and enthusiastic public who want to find out what's new, listen to readings or meet celebrities. This year, however, the Book Fair would like to become even more attractive for its visitors and bring the subject of books even more into the city. This will be helped by a top-class international literature programme in the new Frankfurt Pavilion, bestseller events on the Fairgrounds as well as poetry slams, tastings and talk rounds in trendy Frankfurt locations - all brought together in the new BOOKFEST, the Frankfurt Book Fair's international festival for literature, stories and ideas! For five days and five nights from 10 to 14 October 2018, rousing productions will take place in unusual locations. This should also mean that the Book Fair will continue to provide a stage for many great events in a special atmosphere after the actual end of the Fair days. Marketing Director Markus Gogolin is convinced that the concept of the new festival will be very well received by the public: "When the Fair's daily business ends, an exciting melting pot of business and private visitors is created at many locations in the city". Locations that will be participating in BOOKFEST include Walden, Libertine Lindenberg, Club Michel, Hotel 25hours - The Trip, The English Theatre, Deutsches Architekturmuseum, Genussakademie and many more.
The festival's concept of staging a meeting place for trade fair guests, exhibitors and all Frankfurt residents beyond the trade fair grounds in the evening was already successfully implemented on a small scale in 2017. In 2018, BOOKFEST is a festival for the whole city. "In almost 20 Frankfurt bars and unusual locations, we will not be staging classic readings, but interactive formats such as slams, talks, cooking events and performances from a wide range of topics," says Frank Pauli, Director Business Development, explaining the atmospheric character of the festival. This would also reach those who do not belong to the classic book fair audience.
The BOOKFEST will also take place on a large scale on the exhibition grounds. In the Harmonie hall, visitors can experience national and international stars live: On Thursday, 11 October 2018, the Swedish bestselling author Håkan Nesser will meet the film cast of the cinema adaptation of his crime novel "Barin's Triangle". The film "INTRIGO - Death of an Author" will be released across Europe in October. On Saturday, October 13, 2018, Otto Waalkes proves that he is not a bit quiet even at the age of 70. In conversation with Bernd Eilert, the nation's solo entertainer will present his recently published biography "Kleinhirn an alle".
Another festival highlight is the Frankfurt Pavilion - the new landmark of the Frankfurt Book Fair. The 500 m<x>Ampersand</x>sup2; tall and 6.5 m high iconic wooden structure serves as the main stage for events featuring authors and industry experts from around the world and is also the heart of BOOKFEST. Nearly 50 events, including with Udo Lindenberg, Juli Zeh, Deniz Yücel, Meg Wolitzer, Paul Beatty, Dörte Hansen, Robert Seethaler, Dimitry Glukhovsky, Cixin Liu, Maja Lunde and Eckart von Hirschhausen, will take place there. On Sunday, 14 October 2018, there will be a Family Day from 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with events and readings for families and children: including Martin Baltscheit and Ralph Caspers.
