CHIMNEY is tinkering with the third "Raven Sock" movie
It has long been no secret that the east of Frankfurt is a very creative neighborhood. One of the companies contributing to this reputation is Chimney on Hanauer Landstraße. In the animation forge is currently working at full speed on the third cinema adventure of the "Little Raven Sock", which will be distributed by Universum Film in June 2019 in the cinemas. More than a year before the theatrical release, director Verena Fels, producer Dirk Beinhold, executive producer Sebastian Runschke and Sebastian Leutner from Chimney Germany presented their latest project about the heroes of the popular children's book series of the same name at Chimney. The Raven is no stranger here, as Akkord Film already had pictures of his first two successful big screen outings produced in Frankfurt's Ostend.
At the press event, which offered an interesting insight into the making of an animated film, were also Hesse's Minister of Art and Culture Boris Rhein, the Managing Director of HessenFilm und Medien, Hans Joachim Mendig, from MFG Filmförderung Unit Head Robert Gehring and from Hessischer Rundfunk Family Programme Director Patricia Vasapollo. Since Frankfurt plays a central role in the making of the film, it was once again a matter of course for the state of Hesse to support the production with funds for the third part. The great success of the first two parts, which were big box office hits not only in Germany but also in Austria and are also selling very well on DVD and Blu-ray, shows that these funds have been well invested. The state of Hesse is funding the film with a total of 450,000 euros, Baden-Württemberg with 550,000 euros. Together with SWR and NDR, hr is contributing a total of around 350,000 euros.
In addition to an outlook on animation production in Hessen as a film location, director Verena Fels provided concrete insights into the making of her feature-length debut, from black-and-white sketches to vividly colourful film scenes. Afterwards, visitors were able to take a look over the shoulders of the Chimney staff and were even allowed to work on a small scene themselves, something Boris Rhein did not miss.
The visit to Chimney not only provided an insight into the creative processes necessary for such a cinematic adventure to emerge. It also showed one of Frankfurt's many creative sides, which otherwise remains hidden from most.
