After ten days, the question of whether the new, museum-like facility will be well received by citizens and tourists can be answered with a resounding yes: In this short period of time, the Archaeological Museum has already counted over 20,000 visitors to the complex, whose stone walls are the oldest in the old town. However, one reason for the high popularity may also have been the Museumsuferfest: On the festival weekend alone, over 7000 visitors flocked to the Imperial Palace franconofurd to marvel at the beginnings of the Main metropolis. On average, this meant that well over 2000 visitors came each day.
With enthusiasm, the head of the culture department Ina Hartwig expressed: "The Museumsufer Frankfurt is one attraction richer. The Kaiserpfalz franconofurd is developing into a real crowd-puller in the heart of the new old town so soon after its opening. This is not surprising, as visitors can experience Frankfurt's origins here in a modern and contemporary way. The great popularity among visitors is a compliment to all those who have worked on this project over the years."
Wolfgang David, the senior museum director of the Archaeological Museum Frankfurt, was also delighted: "It is deeply touching, and at the same time an incentive for our work, to see how numerous citizens meet every day in the historic centre of the old town at the structural remains from two millennia - from the sweat baths of the Romans to the cellars of Miltenberg House, destroyed in the bombing war of 1944. A sign that the archaeological showcase on Cathedral Hill has been embraced by the people of Frankfurt within a very short time."
The imperial palace franconofurd, protected by the "Stadthaus am Markt", offers a showcase into the origins of the city of Frankfurt: a Roman bath, the walls of the Carolingian royal court, late medieval cellars - traces from almost 2000 years of urban history. In addition, selected finds from the excavations in the heart of Frankfurt's old town will be presented in a new exhibition room in Bendergasse.
Guided tours will take place from 1 September to 26 November every Wednesday, 6 pm (only until 28 October 2018) and on Saturdays, 3 and 4.30 pm. Registration for the 45-minute tour is not required. Admission is free
