After months of closure, the Papageno Musiktheater, like many other cultural venues in Frankfurt, had resumed performances in late summer 2021. With a masking requirement in force throughout the house, the 2G rule and a reduced number of possible visitors, it was possible to offer a nice program again in recent months. Especially the musical production of "Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella" made many children and families happy before and after Christmas. The tightening of the Corona regulations brought fears of another closure of the musical theatre. But the Papageno team is now giving the all-clear for the time being: it is true that the current situation continues to be a great challenge for the Papageno Music Theatre. But thanks to the proven and constantly updated clearance and hygiene concept, play operations can continue.
In addition to the children's program, Papageno Musiktheater will present two concerts to kick off the year, featuring a popular mix of opera and operetta melodies. On January 8, the concert "Musical Fireworks", which drew standing ovations on New Year's Eve, will be repeated once again. On January 22, as well as February 19, Papageno will present the concert "The Most Beautiful of Opera and Operetta."
The performances will each be held in compliance with the 2G rule. Musical accompaniment will be provided in the usual manner by the Music Theatre's chamber music ensemble.
The reduction in seating capacity to around 55-65 seats presents Papageno Music Theatre with a major financial challenge. The costs cannot even begin to be covered. The resumption of performances was only made possible by support in the form of private donations. Funding from the federal program has also already been applied for.
"I'm not giving up," says theater director Hans-Dieter Maienschein. "After we have steered the theatre through the crisis for almost two years now, it would be fatal to give up now. We also owe it to our loyal visitors."
