(ffm) On the occasion of the upcoming Easter holidays, Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann and Head of Health Stefan Majer address a joint greeting to the citizens of Frankfurt:
Dear citizens of Frankfurt,
this year, many things are different at Easter. The following applies to all of us: let's make the best out of this exceptional situation. Because especially in this crisis, we need to think positively and encourage each other. Just as we have already done in the past weeks. The current development shows us that we are on the right track. We also sense that the restrictions are being met with understanding by the vast majority of the citizens of our city. To this end, Frankfurt sticks together, as a look at life in our city shows us.
Thus, many new networks have spontaneously sprung up to support each other. Neighborhood initiatives that do shopping for the elderly and needy. Virtual offers of sports clubs or homework help via Internet for pupils s emerged. Others do great work as members of the medical, helping and caring professions. Then there are the employees of the police and emergency services. Employees in the retail sector are taking on challenges that have never been faced before. They all deserve our thanks! You give your best. Rest assured at this point, we in city government are also doing our best to minimize the impact of the pandemic on all of us.
That includes starting to test all residents of senior facilities for possible infection. Because it is the elderly and vulnerable in the city's society who need special protection and support.
Not a few of us will be worried about our economic future over Easter. Thoughts may be circling around our jobs or our own businesses. We as a city, together with the federal government and the state, will do everything we can to cushion the impact of the pandemic on Frankfurt's economic life.
Unfortunately, we cannot yet give the all-clear. The Chancellor's Office expects the pandemic to peak over Easter. We must continue to keep a tight rein.
As I said, this Easter is different for us. Sure, people will go for walks. However, we should avoid popular destinations like the banks of the Main River and switch to other places to keep the proper distance. In addition, there are the current restrictions for all of us: At most two people are allowed to be together, if they are not relatives from the common household or families.
Quite clearly, the restrictions demand a lot from us. In addition, they demand our patience. Because we will only return to normality when there is a success of the measures. And this way back will only be gradual. We will still need perseverance, together. For your support and understanding, the Magistrate of the City of Frankfurt would like to thank you - the citizens of our city.
In this spirit, we wish you, your families and friends a wonderful and happy Easter!
Sincerely
Yours
.Peter Feldmann
