Enthusiastenorchester - A new participatory project of the Alte Oper Frankfurt

To once stand on the stage in the Great Hall of the Alte Oper and play in front of an audience in an orchestra - this dream can now be fulfilled by those interested. The Alte Oper is launching a project with the Enthusiastenorchester (Enthusiast Orchestra), which will make it possible to play music together in an orchestra. Who would like to play there, can still register until 29 July 2021.

This project is aimed in the season 2021/22 to all who want to bring their skills on an instrument once in an orchestra association and perform with other music enthusiasts in the Great Hall of the Old Opera. The "Enthusiast Orchestra", formed from interested (amateur and professional) musicians, will then come together for two rehearsal weekends in February 2022. Together with two internationally renowned artists, the conductor Michael Sanderling and the organist Iveta Apkalna, a concert program will be developed, which will be performed at the end of the project on Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 17.00 clock in the Great Hall of the Alte Oper.

Interested musicians* from all over Germany who are at least 14 years old and who have mastered one of the common orchestral instruments at an advanced level can become part of the project. To apply, an application form must be sent in showing teaching and orchestral experience. A short video with the interpretation of a piece of your choice (with or without piano accompaniment, chamber music, orchestral parts) can make the application more descriptive - however, it does not reduce the chances of participation if such a video cannot be made due to a lack of technical requirements. If you would like to apply for a part leader or solo position, you must, however, in addition to the application form, send in a video of the audition for the respective audition positions, which can be found on the website of the Alte Oper Frankfurt.

The program includes the following works:

Richard Strauss Festliches Präludium op. 61

Camille Saint-Saëns Symphony No. 3 in C minor op. 78 "Organ Symphony"

Georges Bizet Carmen Suites no. 1 & 2 (excerpts)
