Diversity is also writ large in Frankfurt in the museum landscape. This becomes clear once again when you look at the exhibition preview of the 38 museums on the Museumsufer. In the coming months, visitors can expect curios and spectacular, quiet and loud, small finds and large overviews in a unique variety! From antiquity to modernity, from film to urban history, there really is something for every taste in art.
"The Museumsufer also offers exciting projects and exhibitions for the people of Frankfurt and their guests in 2022! I am pleased that the museum directors and their staff have succeeded in sticking to their programmatically and artistically demanding concepts and implementing them with great commitment despite the continuing difficult pandemic situation," says Ina Hartwig, Head of the Department of Culture and Science. "I would particularly like to highlight our new member: the German Romantic Museum is the 38th museum in our association, to which we extend a warm welcome! The novel presentation of the originals through a multimedia exhibition form, which makes it possible to experience the Romantic period as a key German and European epoch, is decidedly successful and an enrichment for Frankfurt's museum landscape."
A remarkable exhibition project is that of the Historical Museum on National Socialism in Frankfurt, consisting of three special shows: "A city joins in - Frankfurt and the NS" and "With the city laboratory in search of traces in today - Frankfurt and the NS", both on view since 9. December 2021 to September 11, as well as "Nachgefragt: Frankfurt und der NS" from December 9, 2021 to April 23, 2023 in the Junges Museum, which deals with the topic in a way that is suitable for children. The Schirn Kunsthalle also deals with this period and artists who did not find or seek affiliation with National Socialism in "KUNST FÜR KEINEN. 1933-1945" from March 4 to June 6, before the exhibition hall comes up with an absolute highlight in the fall of 2022 with "Chagall. World in Turmoil" from November 4 to February 19, 2023.
Great and world-renowned art on a meta-level is approached by the Museum für Moderne MMK with "Marcel Duchamp" from March 19 to 18. September in the main building, while in the customs office MMK John Cage's "Museumcircle" is implemented from December 11, 2021 to March 20.
Since fall 2020 for renovation is closed the German Architecture Museum. However, in its interim quarters, the DAM Ostend at Henschelstrasse 16a, the museum will be showing the exhibition "DAM PREIS 2022. The best buildings in/from Germany" from January 29 to March 27 and "SCHÖN HIER. Architecture in the countryside" at the Hessenpark open-air museum.
Admission and tickets
The MuseumsuferCard for 89 euros provides access to all permanent and temporary exhibitions of the participating 38 museums, such as the Senckenberg Naturmuseum, the DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, the Museum für Angewandte Kunst and the Jewish Museum, which will reopen in October 2020. A new addition in 2021 is the German Romantic Museum.
At the Städel Museum, the Card is valid for visits to the permanent collection as well as changing exhibitions from the museum's own holdings; admission to the permanent collection and special exhibitions of the graphic collection is included. Major special exhibitions with international loans have been excluded from the Card since January 1. In 2022, this applies to the exhibitions "Nennt mich Rembrandt!" until January 30, "RENOIR. ROCOCO REVIVAL" from March 2 to June 19 and "Guido Reni" from November 23 to March 5, 2023.
With the MuseumsuferTicket for two consecutive days for 21 euros, these special shows can also still be seen at the Städel Museum. With the Culture and Leisure Ticket, young visitors under the age of 18 have been able to visit the permanent and special exhibitions of Frankfurt's museums free of charge since mid-2020. The ticket has been available free of charge since June 2020 for Frankfurt schoolchildren, daycare children, and children and young people under 18 from households with a net monthly income of less than 4,500 euros. For all other families, regardless of where they live, a ticket price of 29 euros per year is envisaged. For all under 18 years, the doors of the 16 municipal museums are open free of charge.
