State Minister Axel Wintermeyer and Rüsselsheim's Lord Mayor Patrick Burghardt present the programme with around 1.500 events
Jump off the ski jump in spring, experience the animal sleuths of the customs or sing along to the songs of the rock group Scorpions: You can do all that at Hessentag. The head of the Hessian State Chancellery, Minister of State Axel Wintermeyer, and Mayor Patrick Burghardt presented the program of around 1,500 events in Rüsselsheim on Tuesday, almost all of which are free of charge. "We are looking forward to our state festival, which is packed with highlights. The Hessentag is a strong brand. It combines tradition and modernity, entertaining and informative," said Minister of State Wintermeyer. This year, one focus of the content will be the initiative "Hessen lives respect". "This motto is a perfect fit for Hessentag, because our state festival brings people of different cultures and all ages together. We want to take advantage of this and promote more tolerance and consideration in many events. Our thanks go to the many volunteers and sponsors, without whom such a programme would not be possible."
As usual, the core modules of the state festival form the basic structure of the Hessentag: the state exhibition, the special show "On the trail of nature", the grand parade at the end and the festival tent, which will be Music Hall K48 in Rüsselsheim. The state exhibition will feature presentations by the ministries, the Hessian State Parliament and its parliamentary groups. "The exhibition is a meeting point and information platform and, with the political forum, offers interesting insights into everything that makes Hessen special. Our ‚Hesse Lives Respect' initiative will also play a role here, for example in the round of talks between Minister President Volker Bouffier and the initiative's godmother, the writer Nele Neuhaus," said Minister of State Wintermeyer. In addition, numerous companies will provide information about their products and services.
The special show "On the trail of nature" is one of the most popular attractions at the Hessentag with many hands-on and adventure activities. The dm-Kinderland has surprises in store for all young visitors. Sport will not be neglected either with more than 100 events. One highlight is the two-day "Festival of Sports". There will be activities to watch and take part in. Visitors can jump from a summer ski jump, test a biathlon facility or conquer a bike trial course. In addition, the German championships in bicycle trial and Hessian championships in epee and foil fencing as well as in dancing will be held. The "Police Day", when around 900 police commissioner candidates are sworn in, attracts a large number of visitors every year with a police sports music show.
The programme is summarised in a booklet of around 180 pages, 150,000 copies of which are being distributed free of charge with immediate effect.
