The Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt (VGF) has taken an important step towards digitalization: the "Futuretrain", a prototype for the new Digital Train Control System Frankfurt (DTC), is currently running on the test ring of the Stadtbahnzentralwerkstatt (StZW). This innovative system, which will be presented to the public during the Hessian Digital Summit, aims to make the city's public transport more efficient and environmentally friendly.
With the DTC, VGF is planning to convert its existing train control system to digital technology. The "Communication-Based Train Control" system will be used, which can increase the capacity of the lines and at the same time reduce energy consumption by up to 15 percent through automated driving at closer intervals between trains. "DTC makes public transport more efficient and reliable," emphasizes Mobility Director Wolfgang Siefert.
Interested parties will have the opportunity to view the "Futuretrain" and the DTC project on 21 and 22 October as part of guided tours of the light rail workshop. There will also be exclusive insights into the VGF control center - an area that is not normally open to the public.
