Frankfurt Art Summer ends - App remains

(kus) With a "late summer party" at the Atelierfrankfurt, the Frankfurt Art Summer came to an end on Friday evening, September 1. From June to August, more than 160 events took place, in which about 200 artists participated. The opening took place on May 30 at the Kunstverein Lola Montez. The summer was accompanied by the app ART FFM. It bundled everything the Art Summer had to offer and invited visitors to take a digital stroll through Frankfurt's off-scene.

"The Frankfurt Art Summer has made the diversity, strength and creativity of our off-scene visible under one roof. Artists from all disciplines have opened their doors and studio spaces, and presented exhibitions and actions. This has created a lively exchange and dialogue - among the artists, but also between the creatives and the visitors," says head of culture Ina Hartwig.

During the months of June to August, all events were combined for the first time with an app ART FFM. Around 2500 people downloaded the app to their mobile phones from June to August, and it will continue to be available to anyone interested in art. Interactive calendar and map functions enable users to discover the diverse range of events in Frankfurt's independent art scene for themselves in a compact and clear way and to compile their personal favourites. In addition, the app offers a directory of artists, short descriptions of studios, galleries, educational institutions and much more. It can be searched classically by date, artist, institution or associatively by topic.

"The Frankfurt Art Summer as an umbrella brand for the launch of the ART FFM app was a sign of belonging, with the app gradually mapping a large part of the visual artists in Frankfurt and the events as well as venues. In the future, the app will continue to make it possible to easily obtain information on the art scene, but also to specifically find artists' exhibitions and art events," says Susanne Kujer, initiator and head of the Visual Arts Department at the Frankfurt Cultural Office. Because the app ART FFM exists beyond the art summer, should continue to serve the off-scene as a contact point and bring art enthusiasts closer to the diversity of the scene. The app ART FFM is available as a free download in the app stores for Apple and Android.

With the Frankfurt Art Summer, the Cultural Office had this year for the first time to promote the Frankfurt off-scene, which is reflected in many individual events, and to anchor in the consciousness of the Frankfurt and visitors to the city.
