Frankfurt Christmas Market 2021 comes to an end

Frankfurt Christmas Market 2021 comes to an end

Today, Wednesday 22 December, the Frankfurt Christmas Market 2021 comes to an end after 31 days of events. It was a different Christmas market than we know it, and especially for the showmen and stand operators, the Corona regulations were a great challenge. Especially since, as expected, the big rush of visitors failed to materialize. In four weeks, about one million visitors came to the market. Before Corona there were about twice as many. One reason for this was probably that fewer commuters, tourists and day trippers came to Frankfurt due to the pandemic. The weather, with many rainy days and relatively mild temperatures, was also not ideal for a Christmas market. Nevertheless, under the difficult circumstances, the Frankfurt Christmas Market can still be called a success.

Thanks to the calculated lower number of visitors, the reduction of the stands to more space and through thoughtful planning, wider aisles and a good distribution of the various offers, keeping a distance was well possible. In addition, the mask obligation and the other rules were controlled quite strictly, which should give the visitors as much security as possible. All planning was developed and carried out in close coordination with the Frankfurt Health Department and within the framework of the Hessian Corona Protection Ordinance.

"We are pleased and happy that the Christmas market was able to remain open for the entire period. This is a really great success. Tourismus+Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main, the public health department, the security authorities and all the offices involved have done an outstanding job and developed a viable concept, implemented it and monitored it closely. I would like to express my sincere thanks for this," said Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann at the finale of this special Christmas market. "We have sent an important signal and given hope for the showmen and women, for the city centre and retail trade and also for the citizens. The hygiene and safety concept has worked and the guests of the market have behaved in a disciplined manner," says Feldmann.

"This is now the second event, after the Dippemess Park, that we have been able to successfully conduct under pandemic conditions. Although the implementation of the corona-related measures and the spatial expansion of the market could only be realised at considerable additional cost for us as organisers, we are very pleased to finally be able to fulfil our mandate again and hopefully gradually get all the traditional festivals of the city of Frankfurt am Main back up and running," says Thomas Feda, Managing Director of Tourismus+Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main (TCF), confidently for the coming year.

The new area at Roßmarkt has proven itself as an event space for the Christmas market and offers a special additional area and option with urban flair also for future Frankfurt Christmas markets.
