Young Frankfurt people can rejoice: There will be an independent children's and youth theater in the Zoogesellschaftshaus. This is intended to expand the city's cultural landscape, especially for children and young people. This was decided by the city councillors on 23 February.
Deputy Minister for Culture Dr. Ina Hartwig said: "I am delighted about the decision of the city council. Now we can finally start planning for an independent children's and youth theatre in Frankfurt. I envision a house with its own artistic signature, where young people not only watch theatre, but are also involved in the processes of making theatre. They should test their own talents there and train their self-confidence with the help of theatre, for example in workshops. The Zoogesellschaftshaus is a promising place to offer children a cultural experience in the immediate vicinity of the zoo. Especially for Frankfurt, a city of immigration, the children's and youth theater is a real, sustainable investment in future generations."
However, young theater fans shouldn't cheer too loudly just yet, because it will be a while before the new children's and youth theater can open. First of all, the Zoogesellschaftshaus has to be examined to see if it is suitable for a conversion. It may be some time before the inevitable renovation takes place. However, those responsible are aiming for an opening in 2020. We are curious!
