The opening of Frankfurt's museums is coming within reach. As early as next Thursday, March 11, the Jewish Museum, the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, the Städel Museum and the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung will finally reopen to visitors*. The Museum Angewandte Kunst is even open again from Tuesday, 9 March. On Friday, 12 March, the Museum of Communication will follow. The DFF - Deutsches Filmmuseum plans to reopen on March 16. And the Caricatura Museum also wants to make its visitors laugh again from next week (16 March). The DAM plans to reopen this week, on Friday (12 March) to be precise. The Historisches Museum will reopen its doors on Saturday, March 13. The Young Museum will, however, remain closed a little longer. At least: the exhibition should be open to the public again from 30 March.
In the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, the exhibitions "Magnetic North. Myth of Canada in Painting 1910-1940" and "GILBERT & GEORGE. THE GREAT EXHIBITION" on view to the public for the first time, plus, in the rotunda open to the public, the installation "Caroline Monnet. Transatlantic".
In addition to the collection, the Städel Museum will be presenting a new special exhibition from 11.03. entitled "Städels Beckmann / Beckmanns Städel. The Years in Frankfurt", which will be extended until 29 August 2021. The occasion is the new acquisition of the painting Self-Portrait with Champagne Glass (1919) by Max Beckmann. The popular exhibition "Schaulust. Dutch Drawing Art of the 18th Century" is also on view again and will be extended until 24 May 2021.
In the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung, the highly acclaimed special exhibition "COLORFUL GODS - GOLDEN EDITION. The Colors of Antiquity" as well as the collection presentation will reopen. The exhibition will be extended until 26 September 2021.
In the Museum of Communication, the new special exhibitions Back to Future. Technology Visions between Fiction and Reality and the just opened Letters without Signatures. GDR History(s) on BBC Radio.
The DAM presents to its visitors* from the 12.03. the exhibition SIMPLY GREEN - Greening the City, as well as the INTERNATIONAL HOUSING AWARD 2020.
The Caricatura Museum has extended the wonderful exhibition Hauck & Bauer: Cartoons until July 11. It will be open for viewing again starting 3/16
at DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseumwill host the exhibition THE SOUND OF DISNEY. 1928-1967 will be on view for another ten weeks starting on March 16.
The Museum Angewandte Kunst will be showing from 09.03. the exhibitions ANETTE LENZ à propos, as well as ars viva 2021: Rob Crosse, Richard Sides, Sung Tieu
The Jewish Museum, which had to close again shortly after its opening following many years of renovation, will be showing the special exhibition "The Female Side of God" from 11.03., as well as the new permanent exhibition "Wir sind Jetzt. Jewish Frankfurt from the Enlightenment to the Present".
In the Historisches Museum, only the permanent exhibitions will be on view for the first few days after the reopening on March 13. The new, large exhibition "Frankfurter Gartenlust - Die Stadt und das Grün" will open on Thursday, March 25.

The Institute for Urban History will open its reading room, collections and exhibitions on Tuesday, March 9. Pre-registration is required to visit the reading room, collections and exhibits, and information can be found on the museum's website. The following exhibitions are currently on view at the Institute of Urban History: "Bewegte Zeiten: Frankfurt in the 1960s" through April 18, "Eberhard Steneberg: Between All Stools" through May 9, and the permanent exhibition "Jörg Ratgeb: The Murals in the Carmelite Monastery."
The Archaeological Museum will open its doors again on Tuesday, March 9. Two special exhibitions are waiting for their guests: The presentation "The Torah Shrine of the Synagogue at Börneplatz" can be seen until April 18, until April 11 the house shows the exhibition "SYRIA. Fragments of a Journey, Fragments of a Time" with photographs by Yvonne v. Schweinitz (1921-2015).
The MMK Museum of Modern Art will reopen its
Synagogue
from Tuesday, 9. March, the TOWER MMK will reopen. The exhibition "Collection" is on display there. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The World Cultures Museum will not reopen until Thursday, April 1, due to exhibition renovations. Then, the new exhibition currently under construction in the main building "Green Sky, Blue Grass. Colors Order Worlds."
