"We still have to step on the gas a bit for 2024, but we are ready for it". With these words, city councillor Markus Frank, together with Frankfurt's EM ambassador Fredi Bobic, presented the new advertising motif for the EM 2024 on Monday. Together with nine other cities, Frankfurt am Main has been selected as a candidate city for UEFA EURO 2024. Now, of course, hopes are high that Germany will win the bid in September. "The mood is very positive," Frank tells us. Of course, there are also critics, but most of them agree: Frankfurt wants the EURO! Fredi Bobic adds: "This is a very big story for all of us. We want to create a new football fairytale together."
There are only eight weeks left until the final award. So close to the home stretch, all the heart and soul is now being put into the campaign to bring the European Championship to Germany and thus also to Frankfurt. "For us, it is the opportunity to transport a positive basic mood," says Markus Frank. That is also important, as the mood does not seem to be the best at the moment due to the poor performance at the World Cup and the debate about Mesut Özil. Fredi Bobic, however, is relatively relaxed about it. "Discussions are always good, because we are an open country," he explained at the poster presentation. Especially the sport of football would be the best advertisement for tolerance and openness in Germany.
Not only on one of the two new advertising motifs Bobic had received support from children of a Frankfurt youth football team. The enthusiastic youngsters were also present at the press event. Bobic was particularly enthusiastic about this. With what joy, team spirit and desire they burn for the subject of football and are united by it - exactly what he experiences and expects from the professionals of Eintracht and the national team.
One thing is already clear: If the European Championship comes to Germany, it should be as good as the summer fairy tale 2006. Here Frankfurt would have presented itself so well that since then the tourism figures have gone steeply uphill. Of course, there will also be a large public viewing area like the one in the Mainarena. What exactly this will look like will only be planned when Germany actually becomes the venue for the European Championship.
Those who want to get in the mood for the European Championship in a refreshing way can look forward to the Museumsuferfest. There the DFB will send the ice cream van, which was already a guest at the CSD. Then there will be delicious ice cream for everyone - which hopefully won't be the only reason to look forward to the European Championship 2024
