Ice rink on Frankfurt's Main riverbank opens

10.12.2019 | 13:22 Clock | Citywhispers
Ice rink on Frankfurt's Main riverbank opens

The good news first: Frankfurt finally has an ice rink in the city centre again this winter. The not-so-good news: it's more of an ice rink then, which almost seems puny compared to the rinks in other cities like Bad Homburg or Wiesbaden. With just 7.5 by 30 meters, the rink doesn't necessarily offer much space for big jumps. But just for beginners or for people who like to turn their rounds a little more leisurely, the 225 square meters are enough.

About the small ice rink there was a lot of trouble with the city politics. What came out after about a year of planning, also does not necessarily correspond to the image of the metropolis on the Main, which Frankfurt otherwise likes to carry outward. But for all those who like to skate with their blades under their feet, the rink on the bank of the Main, which is (currently) closed to traffic, is definitely a step in the right direction. Certainly, a larger version more centrally at the Roßmarkt would have been even nicer. But all those who have ever wanted to skate directly on the banks of the Main with a view of the skyline or simply want to add a special touch to their Christmas market visit, should be quite happy about this little ice train.

By the way, skates can be rented on site. So you can also venture on the ice on short notice. And at the latest then, if you turn your rounds and just have fun, the (justified) criticisms are quickly forgotten.

The use of the rink costs 6 € (day ticket) for adults and 4 € (day ticket) for children under 12 years. Skates can be rented for 5 € (for 2 hours). As a deposit must be either 60 € in cash, or the driver's license or ID card.

With mulled wine, hot cider, Mispelchen, beer or soft drinks there is also something against the thirst!

The ice rink on the Mainufer has until 19. January daily from 11 to 22 clock open
