(ffm) The Frankfurt Ice Sports Hall is a popular leisure and sports venue: last year, around 571,000 people visited the ice sports hall. While 154,000 children and young people glided across the approximately four centimetre thick ice, around 85,000 adults took to the blades. January and December are the most popular months for skating fans: 68,000 people came to skate in January and 66,500 in December. In total, there were around 11,000 more visitors in 2018 than in 2017.
Training is also a busy activity at the ice rink: 112,000 athletes improved their technique, practiced pirouettes and somersaults and held competitions on Frankfurt's ice in 2018.
From May to August, the ice sports hall is "ice-free" - while the people of Frankfurt enjoy the summer in open-air swimming pools, parks and on the banks of the Main, the ice sports hall is being spruced up for the ice season. To ensure that the old ice rink on Ratsweg remains attractive, many renovation and modernization measures are planned for the next few years. This is also necessary, because the sports facility will also be needed in the future for training, ice skating and curling. From late summer on, the events here come to life: Last year, 6557 children, youths and adults laced up their skates again as early as September.
In summer, events such as the amateur dance sport tournament "Hessen tanzt" in May or the bicycle fair VeloFrankfurt in June are also on the schedule. The award ceremony of the Iron Man or darts tournaments are also hosted in the hall. A total of around 220,000 visitors have been counted at these events and the home games of the Frankfurt Lions.
The Frankfurt Ice Sports Hall was opened on 19 December 1981. It offers an ice surface of about 9000 square meters and 6770 spectator seats.
