For fans it is already clear: Eintracht will win the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday in Seville. And it's also clear that if that happens, there will be celebrations for all they're worth on Thursday. The joy of the fans, however, is the sorrow of many commuters and residents who will have considerable difficulty getting into or out of downtown Frankfurt on that day. The police, fire department, Eintracht Frankfurt and the city administration are expecting more than 100,000 fans to flock to downtown Frankfurt on Thursday, May 19, to celebrate the triumph of "their Eintracht" and to celebrate their cup heroes at Römerberg. And that will provide above all for considerable traffic obstructions.
For this reason, the city administration urges people to avoid the city center area in the event of a final victory, if possible. Anyone who is not a soccer fan and does not want to celebrate with Eintracht should do everything possible to avoid Frankfurt's city center on this day. In particular, employees entitled to home office, commuters from the surrounding area, but also day trippers should be aware that on this day, the arrival and departure, especially by car and public transport, may be difficult or impossible due to the sheer crowds. Because: "On Thursday, the city belongs to Eintracht".
Whoever does not take this advice seriously, must expect to be stuck in the city center until late in the evening. So it could be quite possible that parking garages are closed and the streetcar service between Konstablerwache and Hauptbahnhof must be stopped.
Four parking garages on 19. May closed
In addition, it should be noted that in preparation for the possible celebrations, four parking garages in the city center area will remain closed on Thursday, May 19, in the period from 6 am to midnight - even if Eintracht should not win. These are the parking garage Dom Römer, the parking garage Hauptwache, the parking garage Kaiserplatz as well as the parking garage Konstabler.
Traffic obstructions are to be expected even in the event of a defeat, as there will definitely be preparatory setups and associated traffic disruptions in the city center area due to the spontaneity of the event. Therefore, all those who do not have to be in downtown Frankfurt for a compelling reason on Thursday should be asked to plan alternatives in good time.
No operation of outdoor catering around the Römerberg.
In the event of a victory in the finals, thousands of fans will therefore invade the city center. For safety reasons, therefore, the Office for Road Construction and Development (ASE) temporarily revokes the permission to operate outdoor catering or display goods on public space. This affects the possible celebration zone around the Römerberg.
U trains with more space, three streetcar lines diverted
Affected by the possible fan celebrations on the Römerberg will also be the public transport in Frankfurt. Most subway lines will maintain their large space through long trains beyond rush hour.
Tram lines 11, 12 and 14 are not expected to be able to run over the Altstadt route from 6 a.m. onward. Between Börneplatz and Hauptbahnhof they drive a detour via Sachsenhausen.
From about 10 o'clock it is expected that the station Dom/Römer will be closed. The U4 and U5 subway lines will then pass through the station without stopping.
For fans, public transport is recommended for arrival and departure. Even if not directly around the corner, but especially S-Bahns, subways and streetcars in the dense Frankfurt network offer good connections to nearby stations and stops.
