Visitors to the Senckenberg Nature Museum can look forward to a very special experience. With the help of a new virtual reality application, the atrium of the popular museum will be transformed into a tropical Jurassic sea with fish dinosaurs and prehistoric animals.
You can literally immerse yourself in a fascinating habitat. Through the VR goggles you suddenly find yourself in the middle of the sea: ammonites are close enough to touch, a large Temnodontosaurus circles around and fish dinosaur Stenopterygius hunts for belemnites. All this looks damn real, but has only one advantage: You won't get wet! From now on, thanks to the latest virtual reality technology, you can virtually immerse yourself in the Jurassic Sea every day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admire the sea creatures from prehistoric times in action. Following the popular VR journey to the time of the dinosaurs, in which the skeleton of the Diplodocus is brought to life in a Jurassic primeval forest, the museum's atrium is now being virtually transformed into a tropical Jurassic sea. A really great addition to the already interesting and varied museum offering.
Museum director Dr Bernd Herkner is delighted with this new VR offering: "We were keen to get our visitors excited about the fish dinosaurs in the museum. The use of digital media enables leaps into other times and other dimensions. Our virtual reality application integrates the museum space and makes virtual immersion in the Jurassic Sea a unique experience that can only be experienced in the museum. We can depict not only the appearance but also the movements of long-extinct fish dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals and make them a virtual experience for our visitors."
Like the VR trip to the dinos, the trip to the Jurassic Sea lasts about 3 minutes. There is a user fee of 2 euros for both together (pupils and students pay 1 euro).
