After months of reconstruction work and some minor delays, the time had finally come today: the completely revamped website of the city of Frankfurt went online. From now on, http://www.frankfurt.de not only offers all the familiar services and new content in a contemporary design, but can also be easily read and operated on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. In addition, the presentation is barrier-free. From now on, all Frankfurt residents are invited to try out the new offer.
In times when technology and user behavior are constantly changing, a redesign of the site was urgently needed. Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann agrees, saying of the relaunch: "The online world is fast-moving, so a website that is over ten years old is already half an eternity out of date. It is good that we now have a modern website". For the IT department head Jan Schneider, the new frankfurt.de also offers many advantages for the users: "The contents are clearly structured, orientation and navigation have been simplified. With the technology on which the new website is based, we are also creating the basis for further online services of the city administration."
The development of the new website has been a very labour-intensive process involving the entire city administration. Now the public can taste the fruits of that labor. Over the past few months, the several thousand pages of text and images have been developed by thematic editorial teams across departments. In future, the information will be presented in a more citizen-friendly way. The previous office-centered structuring has been replaced by a topic-oriented presentation.
The new website shows the offers of the city of Frankfurt am Main clearly arranged in different topics, divided into the three main sections "Service & City Hall", "Frankfurt Topics" as well as "Discover Frankfurt & Experience". In addition to the services of the offices such as office hours and online forms, the website includes current news from the magistrate, offices and businesses, events and general information about the city of Frankfurt and its districts. Videos are also part of the offer. Take a look for yourself at: www.frankfurt.de
