Once again in December, the "Clothes Make the People" campaign pays tribute to Corona heroes of everyday life. This month, it's all about the people who are currently putting in enormous efforts to ensure that our Christmas presents are under the tree on time. Because while the retail trade is suffering huge losses in sales because many people are avoiding shopping centres, shops and shopping streets for fear of catching the Corona virus, online trade is booming more than ever. Thousands of messengers in trucks or on bicycles are on the road to deliver parcels and packages as quickly as possible, with as little contact as possible. Anas Mahria (31J) is a delivery driver for GLS, the international parcel and express service provider. He makes sure that the ordered goods reach the customer on time and as contact-free as possible.
"Environmental awareness is very important to me in my job. I think it's good that GLS has responded to this and in a large number of city centres is using eBikes, which are completely silent and emission-free, even through the narrow streets such as Frankfurt's new old town. With this, I can transport parcels weighing up to 220 kg," says Anas Mahria, who has been working for companies since 2019. The GLS ONO eCargobike will be used in regular operation in Frankfurt from next year.
Specially with the parcel distribution not only in the Christmas season, GLS provides a very important service for the supply of society. It is the social contact through gifts, attentions or personal lines that can often be maintained when a family reunion is not possible due to the possible risk of infection by Corona during the holidays.
"Of course, customers want all packages and parcels to reach the recipient before Christmas," knows Mahria, a native of Frankfurt. Before becoming a delivery driver, he completed a dual degree in banking. "However, I quickly realized that a desk job is not for me. I prefer direct customer contact and also like to work in the fresh air." In his spare time, he is passionate about playing football. Currently Anas spins on the left side for FC Gudesding Frankfurt.
For the initiators of the campaign "Clothes make the man", Stephan Görner and Sven Müller, Anas Mahria is one of the Corona heroes of everyday life. "He doesn't sit at his desk or in the home office, but also has to go to the customers during the pandemic. Especially during the Christmas season, when we often have rain, snow or slush, he is the contact person and messenger of happiness for people who feel lonely and alone," says PR and event organiser Sven Müller. Men's outfitter Stephan Görner tailored Mahria a stone-grey flannel tailored suit with white-brown checks for the photo shoot in Frankfurt's new old town, in keeping with the dreary weather.
Esteem, recognition and respect for unusual or dangerous professions are the campaign's message. Photographer Daniel Baldus did a wonderful job of photographing Anas Mahria. First authentically at the workplace while dropping off a package and then in a chic tailor-made suit. "This always creates great photos and stories of people who usually don't wear elegant fashion at their workplace, but without whom a big city wouldn't function," says photographer Daniel Baldus.
