Luminale 2020 - Benjamin Coppik makes Binding glow

Frankfurt light artist illuminates the brewhouse of the Frankfurter Brauerei

This year, Luminale, the festival of international light art, is entering its tenth round. From March 12 to 15, around 110 illuminations in Frankfurt and Offenbach will show how fascinatingly beautiful it is when light becomes art. Artists from all over the world - from New Zealand, the USA, Hong Kong, Denmark, France or Great Britain - will come to Frankfurt to bathe places such as the Alte Oper, the Römer, the Eiserner Steg or various churches in a very special light. For the first time, an overarching theme has also been chosen with "Digital Romantic". The aim is to explore not only the artistic, but also the historical, urban planning and social dimensions of the chosen focus.

One of the many highlights of Luminale 2020 is the illumination of the brewhouse of Frankfurt's traditional brewery Binding. And who better to put this Frankfurt original in the perfect light than a real Frankfurter! Lighting master and light artist Benjamin Coppik from AES Technik will ensure that the Binding Brewery in Sachsenhausen shines impressively on the four evenings of the event from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. each night, making it part of the citywide art event.

It is not the first time that Benjamin Coppik sets a special Frankfurt place by his extraordinary illuminations stylishly in scene. For example, he bathed St. Paul's Church in blue light for Human Rights Day and staged the Alte Oper in light for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The Binding Brewery, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year and for that reason alone cannot be missing from the tenth Luminale, thus perfectly joins Coppik's impressive repertoire.

The striking brew kettles in the brewhouse on Sachsenhäuser Berg will glow in a warm white for Luminale 2020, while the colours blue and yellow complete Benjamin Coppik's illumination. The yellow, of course, symbolizes beer, while the blue is not only anchored in Binding's brand design, but also stands for loyalty. And loyalty is what has made Binding a true Frankfurt institution of tradition.
