This coming weekend, Frankfurt will once again set a colorful example for tolerance and against prejudice. For over 25 years, the worldwide festival, which commemorates the first known uprising of homosexuals against police arbitrariness in New York's Christopher Street on June 27, 1969, is also held in the Main metropolis. One might think that in a relatively tolerant and cosmopolitan city like Frankfurt, the CSD is not that important. But to remember that gays, lesbians, bi- or transsexual people in far too many places in this world are still hostile, persecuted, imprisoned or even killed, makes this event again in 2018 a very important event.
And so there are besides a lot of party and music also numerous information booths, discussion rounds, a minute of silence and of course the demonstration procession under the motto "My identity is not negotiable."
Highlights at Frankfurt Christopher Street Day
The event starts on Friday (20.07.) at 3 pm with the big community festival at the Konstablerwache, where there will be a colorful live program in addition to various treats such as tarte flambée, crepes, burgers or cocktails. Moderated by Tim Frühling and Malte Anders, artists such as Tom Hugo, We are Diamonds, Emma Lanford and Horse McDonald will be on stage.
While the Konsti is more of a party, the focus at the Diversity Bazaar along Große Friedberger Str. will be on information. Here institutions, groups as well as associations of the community present themselves and on a culture stage there are political talks and live radio.
During the three days there is also a big tombola with attractive prizes, ranging from vouchers for restaurants or the Tigerpalast to a return flight to Amsterdam. Tickets are available for 1,50 €, the proceeds will benefit AIDS-Hilfe Frankfurt.
Another highlight every year is the big stiletto heel race, which is guaranteed to provide some amusing as well as spectacular moments again in 2018 (21.07., 19h). Also the casting and voting for the cover model of the magazine GAB may not be missing. In addition, there will also be special church services (Fri at 7pm in the Lutheran Church, Sat at 6pm in the Gethsemane Church and Sun at 4pm in the Cathedral), two city tours with Christian Setzepfandt (19.07. at 6pm and 22.07. at 4pm, starting at Frankfurter Engel on Klaus-Mann-Platz, at the Eldorado cinema) or a reading with cult star Ingrid Steeger (22.07. from 5pm in Autograph's Bar, Elefantengasse 11).
