Magistrate meeting was held at the municipal winery in Hochheim
(kus) The magistrate of the city of Frankfurt met on the day of the birthday of Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann on Friday, October 7, for its regular meeting at the municipal winery in Hochheim. After the magistrate meeting, the magistrate members were able to visit the winery and participate in a wine tasting with a small snack. Mayor Feldmann had revived the old tradition in 2015. In recent years, the magistrate has also met in Höchst and visited the new ECB together.
The city of Frankfurt has its own winery located in Hochheim. The products pressed there can be tasted and purchased at the Gutsauschank of the Römer. The entrance to the wine bar can be found in the Limpurger Gasse. A sign at the beginning of the Limpurger Gasse with the coat of arms of the city of Frankfurt points the way to the wine sale. "Of course, on ceremonial occasions in the town hall, the city's own wine is served. No important guest is allowed to leave the Römer without having tasted a sip of the real Lohrberger first", Feldmann says.
The wine estate of the city of Frankfurt has tradition, because the city acquired the vineyards including the farmhouses as early as in 1803, thanks to the secularization, because before, the areas belonged to the Carmelite monastery in Hochheim am Main. Until 1994, the city managed the winery itself. Since then, it has been leased to Armin Rupp, a vintner in the tenth generation. However, the city is still the largest customer of the city-owned products. With the "Lohrberger Hang" in Seckbach, Frankfurt is one of the few cities in Germany with its own vineyard within its borders. The Lohrberg is the easternmost vineyard site of the Rheingau and every year about 10,000 bottles of genuine Lohrberger can be bottled from the Riesling grapes harvested there. However, the largest part of the 25-hectare wine-growing area of the municipal estate is located outside the city limits in the Rheingau region, on the banks of the Main river in Hochheim. There, besides Riesling, also Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir, Chardonay, Cabernet and Sauvignon grow
